The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) was initiated by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Guwahati and Roorkee) along with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 2003.
Five core disciplines were identified, namely, civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, electronics and communication engineering and mechanical engineering and 235 courses in web/video format were developed in this phase.
KJSIT NPTEL Local Chapter :
K. J. Somaiya Institute of Technology (KJSIT) is proud to be a SWAYAM - NPTEL Local Chapter, a joint initiative by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), aimed at bringing world-class learning opportunities to students across India.
The Local Chapter operates under the guidance of a faculty member who acts as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC). The SPOC serves as the liaison between NPTEL and KJSIT, ensuring that students are regularly informed about the latest courses, certification opportunities, and NPTEL updates. Additionally, faculty members serve as course mentors, helping students stay engaged, guiding them through assignments, resolving doubts, and motivating them to complete courses successfully.
We encourage all students at KJSIT to explore the wide range of courses offered and take advantage of this excellent opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills through NPTEL.

The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) has been offering high-quality self-study courses in engineering, science, and humanities for over a decade. These courses are accessible online at https://onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in/
Since March 2014, NPTEL has also been providing online certification courses through SWAYAM, giving students a unique opportunity to earn certificates from prestigious IITs by successfully completing courses and passing a proctored exam.
