Mumbai: K J Somaiya Institute of Engineering and Information Technology, (KJSIEIT) placed 3rd in National Robotics Contest, organised by Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU).
Participating Teams are expected to design and fabricate their own robots and organize their teams including an Instructor, Team Leader, Manual Robot Operator and an Automatic Robot Operator.
The theme for this year was "NÉM CÒN (Given by Host country -Vietnam): The Festival Wishing Happiness and Prosperity” The concept of the ABU Robocon 2018's Theme & Rules was based on an interesting folk game called “ Shuttlecock Throwing”. A team of 20 students from KJSIEIT worked incessantly on various aspects of building the Robot i.e. Mechanical, Electronics, and Programming.
KJSIEIT has been participating in Robocon contest since the past 6 years and was amongst the top 10 teams at Robocon 2017.
"It is a feeling of great pride to see our students in the top 3. They have worked hard. Robocon is an excellent platform to enhance the student’s skills through the creation, the design, the assembly and the operation of robots. It certainly helps in building analytical reasoning required in interdisciplinary areas and placements. The involvement and dedication of our students is indeed very significant.” says Dr. Suresh Ukarande, Director, KJSIEIT.
The team leader of KJSIEIT Robocon team, Nikhil Khushalchand Anjane said, “Challenges are bound to be there. The toughest part was to excel in the mechanical field as there isn’t a separate mechanical stream in the college. The long hours of hard work, dedication, and passion for robotics is what binds the team together and helps in achieving a new milestone every year.”
“Robocon promotes leadership, problem-solving skills as well as engineering and business skills throughout the entire process of designing and building. We have come a long way, and now we aim to represent India, at the International Robotic Contest by winning Robocon 2019”, said Prof. Prashant Upadhyay.
