  • Abstract

The present paper highlights the performance of the low cost single capacitive probe fed dual band (DB) circularly polarized (CP) wearable circular textile antenna (CTA) in the GSM 900/1800 band. The major objective of this paper is to inspect the performance of DBCPCTA under different moisture levels (body sweating) to verify its compatibility with wearable application. It is fabricated using conductive electro-textile and polyester fabrics to make the design fully flexible and pleasant for wearable application. The present prototype is designed by stacked patch method. A decent circular polarization (CP) performance is achieved by selecting the accurate dimension of notches. It generates CP radiation at 0.912 GHz and 1.772 GHz with good return loss (RL) and broadside radiation patterns. It has peak gain of 2.12 dB and 8.16 dB at the resonant frequency of lower and upper bands respectively. It has the measured (simulated) impedance bandwidth (RLBW) of 58 MHz (15.6 MHz) and 250 MHz (68.8 MHz) and 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of 11.3 MHz (1.24%) and 14.9 MHz (0.841%) in GSM 900/1800 bands respectively. In these 3-dB AR bands impedance matching with VSWR = 2 is achieved. The measured result exhibits better performance than the simulated results, this is due to altered value of dielectric constant caused by air bubble, deviation in ?r measurement or moisture trapped during fabrication. Hence, DBCPCTA is suitable for wearable and RF harvesting application under moisture condition.
