  • Abstract

The fierce competition is faced by industries on all fronts like quality, productivity,and costs and delivery time.This has been forced industries to adopt and adapt different technology changes and management strategies. The alternation in strategies is essential to cope with the emerging market trends. Total productive maintenance (TPM) is one of the maintenance strategies which lay much emphasis in maximizing equipment effectiveness by eliminating all forms of inefficiencies while optimizing the maintenance expenditures in the organizations .The paper reviews are large number of authors research work in TPM which discloses that many industries in India and abroad have made reasonably significant improvements by adapting TPM initiatives in serious manner. The purpose of this literature review is to find the research gaps with regard to relationships between TPM,TQM, Six sigma and business performance. This paper identifies the research gaps which require strategies in order to meet the emerging market demands optimally.
